Travel Planning
What to pack for a Philippines island trip without overpacking
Small boats, vans and hotel changes make heavy luggage noticeable fast. Pack for heat, rain and water days without carrying half your wardrobe.

Packing for an island trip in the Philippines is mostly about making transfers easier. A large suitcase is manageable in one hotel; it becomes much less enjoyable when you are moving between vans, ferry terminals, small boats and another room.
Pack clothes you will repeat
Light shirts, shorts or breathable trousers, swimwear and one slightly smarter outfit cover most casual island trips. A thin layer helps in heavily air-conditioned buses, airports and ferries. If your accommodation offers laundry, using it once is often easier than packing a fresh outfit for every day.
Keep a small wet-day kit
A compact rain layer, waterproof phone pouch and small dry bag are useful for boat transfers and tours. Keep passports, medication, chargers and one basic change of clothes accessible rather than buried in checked luggage.
Prioritize sun and water
Bring the sun protection you know you will actually use: a hat, sunglasses, light cover-up and suitable sunscreen. A rash guard can be comfortable for long snorkeling or boat days.
Cards and mobile payments are common in many destinations, but small transport, local stalls and environmental fees can still be easier with pesos. A single-hotel Boracay trip can tolerate more luggage; a multi-base Palawan or Cebu itinerary rewards packing lighter.
